Know your margins by Monday.

Upload the export from your till or bank. LockBook turns it into revenue, expenses and profit for any period.

A month at a café, worked out.

This is the sample café's September, worked out from its CSV: revenue, expenses, profit and where the money went.

LockBook reads the export your till already makes.

It works out which column is the date, which is the amount and which is the description. A file imports completely or not at all, so there is never half an upload in your totals.

  • .csv
  • .tsv
  • .xlsx

In the sample file, LockBook reads Date as the date, Amount as the amount, Category as the category.

What you get after the upload.

Build the chart you want to look at.

Bar, line, area or donut from any import. Pin the ones you check every week.

Export to PDF, Excel or CSV for your accountant, your partner or your own records.

Deleted the wrong file?

Imports stay in the trash for 7 days, along with every transaction that came in with them.

Sign-in and roles.

Two-factor sign-in on every plan. Add the people you work with and choose what each of them can do.

Split the tip jar before you lock up.

Enter the pool and who was on shift. Split it equally or by hours worked, and whatever is left over stays in the jar for tomorrow.

In LockBook the same close-out also handles role points and a share taken off the top for the kitchen, and it keeps every past night on record.

Independent cafés and restaurants run on thin margins and long days. LockBook exists so the person closing up can see whether the week paid for itself, without building a spreadsheet first.

Three plans. The difference is how many people.

Every plan includes

  • CSV, TSV and Excel imports
  • Revenue, expenses and profit for any period
  • The chart builder and tip close-out
  • PDF, Excel and CSV exports
  • Two-factor sign-in

How is profit worked out?

Money in, minus money out, over the period you are looking at. It is not an accounting profit: there is no depreciation and no accruals. It is the number that tells you whether last month paid for itself.

Who can see my numbers?

The people you add to your business, and the LockBook team. When we sign in to your account to reproduce a problem, a warning frame surrounds the whole screen, the session ends after 30 minutes, and it is written to a record we cannot edit. LockBook is not end-to-end encrypted and we do not claim it is.

What kind of file can I upload?

A CSV, a TSV or an Excel workbook, up to 5 MB each. Almost every till system and bank can export one of those. If yours exports something else, send us a sample and we will tell you what to ask it for.

What if the totals look wrong after an upload?

It is usually the columns. LockBook guesses which column holds the date, the amount and the description. Open the file and check the rows read the way you expected. If the guess was wrong, delete the import, rename the header row to Date, Amount and Description, and upload it again. Or send us the file and we will look.

How do I get an account?

Write to us. We create your business and hand you a first password, and you replace it the first time you sign in.

Tell us about your place.

Write to us with what you run and what your till exports. We reply by email and set up your account by hand.

What to put in the email

  • What you run
  • Which till or bank your export comes from
